My Story

"I grew up on the beautiful coast of Victoria, BC, where nature and the water became my
lifelong companions. As the middle child, I spent much of my childhood exploring the
wilderness and camping with my family. We spent endless weekends hiking in nature,
feeding the squirrels peanuts, going to waterfalls, watching the salmon spawn and
collecting oysters on the beach which my mom would fry up for the three of us. When I
was four, my grandparents moved in with us, and I was lucky to have the guidance and
love of four parental figures. My sister, diagnosed with a brain tumor at age three, faced
many challenges, and I saw my mother constantly fighting to ensure she received the
same opportunities as other children. This experience shaped me, making me question
systems and advocate for change from a young age.
Travel opened my eyes to global perspectives on helping others. I volunteered in a
school for children with exceptionalities in Dubai, worked with NACWOLA in Uganda,
supporting women who uplifted other women, and in Peru, I helped provide education to
children living in care based homes in Cusco. These experiences solidified my calling,
leading me to earn a master’s in counselling psychology. Like my sister, who became a
dog groomer, and my brother, a teacher, we all gravitated toward helping professions. In
many ways, it feels like I was destined for this path"
